Partly autobiographical, Murder of the Mind demonstrates the extremes to which those in charge will go in order to eliminate the talented individuals, if threatened by their intelligence, preparation and popularity. The section on forced suicide - an example of one such extremes - could very well represent the most accurate account of the gradual deterioration of the mind which leads to self destructive thoughts and eventually to the actual suicide act, on the part of an individual who experienced the pressure, yet lived to describe the consequences.
In a multiracial society, such as the North American one, some portions of the population may find themselves unjustly treated more often than others. Yet all of us, whether black or white, male or female, have been discriminated against - even if not necessarily to the point of self destruction - at some time or other during our lives. Readers may recognize themselves in some of the situations described.
